Ansleigh's Corner

I recently read a book entitled "Our Iceberg is Melting" by John Kotter and Holger Rathgeber. This book is written in the form of a fable and is about a group of penguins that live on an iceberg that is-you guessed it- melting.

As with any fable, this story is not really about the penguins- there is a bigger concept being communicated here: change. John Kotter is a business professor at Harvard and an authority on change management, and he uses the fable to illustrate how organizations deal with change. During the course of the story, the penguins, who represent such an organization, go through the process of change as they find a solution to their melting iceberg problem and key change management points are addressed. For anyone belonging to such an organization or anyone just facing change in general, this book is very helpful.

In the story, the penguins must first accept the need for change, then come up with a plan to deal with it and then execute said plan. It seems simple enough, until you account for the hesitation of those set in their ways or afraid of what such a change might hold in store for them. Then you must consider that those leading this change must keep the group focused and motivated, all while constantly dealing with naysayers trying to lead them astray. Any organization dealing with change deals with these same challenges as well, and creative, effective solutions are needed to meet and surpass them.

Here at Wilder we are also dealing with change; some good, some not. Recently, we have stepped up our PR work in an attempt to garner better results for our clients. After many hours of hard work this week, our efforts proved successful at the Working Worlds/ GAX Technologies Job Fair, where we saw excellent attendance on Thursday. Lately we have also seen an increase in opportunities to work with RL Companies, and we are in the process of changing and tailoring our services to better meet the needs of those potential clients.

As for the bad news, it is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our manager Mahala Bing. After over a year at Wilder Public Relations, Mahala is leaving us to pursue her interests in both SL and RL. We wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavors. We will certainly miss you, Mahala.

We at Wilder are confident that, although faced with a big change in losing such an integral member of our team, we are equipped to handle it efficiently and will continue to provide our clients with the utmost in service and satisfaction. Just like the penguins in the story finally embrace change and make it to a new iceberg, so shall we continue to face any obstacles we may come up against with the same prescision, poise, and professionalism you have come to expect from Wilder.

As our company changes and grows, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all of our clients, colleagues and friends for sharing in our journey so far. We look forward to having you with us as we see our vision for Wilder realized. We would not be where we are today without you and we thank you so much for all of your support.

If you are looking for advice on dealing with change, or if you simply are looking for a nice story for light reading, I would reccomend "Our Iceberg Is Melting". It’s such an easy read that even children can enjoy it and the tips are great just for your personal edification. Every one of us will be faced with change at some point or another, and the more ready you are ahead of time, the better you will be able to handle it when it comes. I hope all of you out there meet your challenges with confidence and assurance and that you always find success in your dealings with change.

Wishing you only the best,

Summer is almost here! I don’t know if it’s just because of the holiday weekend (for those of us in the States) or all of the graduation parties going on right now or that the weather has just been so great lately, but I am so excited for the three long months ahead. I hope you’re ready because my Georgia bones are telling me this is going to be a hot one.

Things sure are heating up around Wilder. We have new exciting clients approaching us every day and several jobs lined up for the coming month. Right now, we are pleased to be working with GAX Technologies/Working Worlds to promote their biannual job fair. What a great opportunity this event is for all of our European residents to check it out and maybe even find a new real-life job. This job fair is a great example of how Second Life is a viable tool for real life businesses to reach out to a diverse and broad group of people and we are thrilled to help them do it.

Wilder is taking on more and more real life clients and we are very excited about it. We hope that this is just the beginning of what we will accomplish. We certainly are working on some big plans for this summer, so the extra hours of daylight certainly come at an opportune time. As always, we want to thank our clients, friends, and colleagues that have helped to make us what we are. We are so glad to have you with us as we achieve even greater success.

I hope those of you celebrating the holiday tomorrow have fair weather for your cookouts and I hope all of you have summers filled with bright sunny days. Be sure to take time to enjoy this wonderful season and take advantage of the good weather to have some fun outside. It's too beautiful to miss.

Wishing you only the best,

Working Worlds/GAX Technologies International Job Fair!!

Working Worlds/GAX Technologies

21 May 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Contact: Annette Wilder, Wilder Public Relations Inc., for Working Worlds/GAX Technologies

Re: The International Career Fair
-------------------------------------------------

Join us May 28, Thursday, for the fourth recruiting job fair event by GAX Technologies. The fair will be held from 6 am slt to 11 am slt. Jorden Andrew will be the DJ for the after party and will be playing lovely jazz tunes for the crowd live from 10am slt-11am slt. The European real life job fair is held in Second Life every six months at the Working Worlds Luxembourg sim. The popularity of the job fairs have grown immensely over the past two years. This type of recruitment for real life companies is the way of the future for big corporations. Second Life has become the virtual platform preferred by GAX Technologies to help their clients reach out and connect with their future employees. Job seekers attend the fair in search of finding their dream job or their next big career move. To help job hunters learn more about the fair and how it will benefit them there will be conferences and e-learning sessions at the Working Worlds location in-world. Working Worlds offers everything possible to help ensure the success of the job seekers.

During the November 2008 fair 3,500 candidates submitted their CV's, the May 2008 fair brought 2,767 CV's, and for the November 2007 fair there were 1,500 CV's submitted by candidates. Every six months the numbers of CV's submitted continues to increase which proves that people are responsive to an in-world job fair. Presently, there are over 3,500 CV's submitted for the May 2009 fair which will make this job fair the most successful one yet. In order to participate as a career seeker go to the Working Worlds' website www.working-worlds.com and register your CV, it's a very easy process and will put you on the right track to finding your new livelihood.

Cornelia den Hartog, Managing Director of 'GAX Technologies' and organizer of the Career Fairs is entirely convinced; 'The need for companies to attract new profiles from beyond the territorial limits is becoming more and more important. 'The 'Working Worlds' Career Fairs are in itself the most efficient solutions currently available to these companies without having to deploy significant resources. Our partners will be directly in touch with candidates who will not have to travel, but who may meet their future employer "Live" on Second Life'.

As we have stated before, it really does not get any easier than this and the results can be just as rewarding for both the employer and the job seeking employee. The Working Worlds sim gives a career seeker the opportunity to do something they cannot do outside of a virtual world. One can get up out of bed, walk over to the computer, and be interviewed without having to change clothing or pay travel expenses to interview with recruiters from prestigious companies for a job that he/she is qualified for. Using Second Life as a complimentary recruitment tool is just the beginning of the many uses of Second Life for real life corporations. Come down and discover a creative, fulfilling, and exciting world of opportunities. There is opportunity for everyone, you are invited to come and find that career you have always wanted it is just a teleport away!

Sometimes it’s good to unwind. In our busy lives, it can be very difficult to take a time out, to relax, to breathe. We get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of getting to where we are going that we forget to make time to enjoy ourselves sometimes too.

This week was certainly a busy one for us at Wilder Public Relations. We have some big things in the works, so be sure to check back with us to see what’s in store. When we weren’t planning the next big step for Wilder’s Angels, our big focus this week was the launch of our client Asalt Eames’s new casual line +grasp+. We spent much time promoting the grand opening of his new store and would like to thank all of you out there who posted our press release. The reward for us was that, at the end of a hard week of work, we got to see the event turn out to be a smashing success. For those of you who came to the store today and saw Asalt’s work, I am sure you will agree with me that his designs were creative, edgy, and wonderfully executed. We at Wilder could not be happier and we look forward to seeing what great things Asalt will come up with in the future. This week we also had the pleasure of taking a break to attend the gallery opening of our friend Ludwig Prinz. For those of you unfamiliar with Ludwig’s photography, I urge you to stop by his gallery and view his fantastic work.

Sundays are always a nice day to catch our breath and prepare for the week ahead. At Wilder we love to stay busy, and events like Asalt's provide us with a built in time to reflect on our work and enjoy our success. But you can bet that we won’t be resting too long before heading into our next project. Though we always have so many things going on at once around here, we never for a second forget that it was our loyal friends, colleagues, and clients that have help us get where we are today. As ever, we wish to express our sincerest appreciation for all of you who have made our success possible.

As you move through your lives, working so hard to achieve your goals and dreams, please remember to pause and take a moment to look around you and appreciate the moment. In the end, these days are the ones that get you where you want to be. What you do now dictates what you will become. Don’t miss it. We all know life is too short to forget to live it.

Wishing you only the best,

Ansleigh's Corner

On this holiday, I was thinking of what an integral place in my life my mother holds. Aside from the obvious fact that she is responsible for my very existence, she holds a role in my life that encompasses so many other things.

She’s my cheerleader, my motivation, my inspiration, and my constant friend. She’s truly the person most dear to my heart.

There is no denying the debt each of us owes to our mother. She is responsible for the very shape of our personality, the core values of our being, and the morals and standards by which we live our lives. Whether the person you know as mother gave birth to you, raised you, or merely touched your life in a profound way, today is a day to show the depths of your gratitude.

Though the woman we call mother is important to us first and foremost because she holds this position in our lives, it may be that she holds many other roles as well. I am personally fortunate enough to work for two such women.

Annette Wilder and Mahala Bing are outstanding mothers as well as wonderful business women and fantastic friends. It is a privilege to know them and an honor to work with them. Always on the go, getting tasks done, being supportive, and placing their children first; these women are the epitome of all a mother can be.

On this Mother’s day, I’d like to express my appreciation to all of the mothers out there taking care of family and working so hard to do their part to contribute to our SL community. Your dedication and hard work are valued beyond measure. Thank you also to all of our wonderful friends and clients for helping to make Wilder Public relations the success that it is.

I hope that all of ya’ll have had a pleasant holiday and a wonderful weekend. Do take the time to tell your mother how much you appreciate her, not just today but each time you get a chance. Never forget all she has done for you. It will mean more to her than you know.

Wishing you only the best,

11 May 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Re: Grand Opening of +grasp+ and free gifts for members of +grasp+
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Join us May 17, Sunday, beginning at 8 AM SLT, as designer Asalt Eames, owner of *Sweetaholic, unveils his newest casual collection for his new store +grasp+. There will be awesome gifts that are only available to members of the +grasp+ group, so you must join the group before coming down to the Grand Opening in order to pick up your free gift! The clothing line +grasp+ will show another side to the talented *Sweetaholic designer. If you have ever been to *Sweetaholic and set eyes on the kimonos that are made by Asalt, you will know they are some of the most beautiful kimonos ever made in SL. Asalt's clothing lines consist of very detailed, realistic pieces. He is a graphics designer in real life who loves fashion and uses the fantastic platform of SL to express his originality and to do something he loves. Asalt's deep love of fashion shows through the intricate detailing on his pieces and the time he takes creating each of them.

Asalt launched his *Sweetaholic Kimono line in November 2007, very soon after he first rezzed here in SL. *Sweetaholic is now well known amongst the Japanese community in SL, so now seemed a perfect time for Asalt to branch out into a new casual line, thus +grasp+ was born. Asalt uses high quality, cutting edge prim texture work on his designs which helps set him apart from other designers. +grasp+ gives Asalt the opportunity to expand his customer base and show the spectrum of his skills as a talented designer.

"What sets Asalt apart from other designers," you may ask. "Why should I attend this," some might wonder. Much like in real life fashion is always changing and +grasp+ is one of the newest stores to hit SL and it will be a part of the next level of change for SL fashion. If you love clothing that is made specifically to give your avatar the look of realism +grasp+ is for you. The revolution of SL fashion begins here!

"Ambition has one heel nailed in well, though she stretches her fingers to touch the heavens".

I came across this quote by Lao Tzu earlier this week, and it's had me thinking ever since. Here is what I know about Lao Tzu: he is generally credited with being responsible for the Tao Te Ching, which is the primary text of the Chinese philosophy/religion of Taoism. I briefly studied the work of Lao Tzu in a literature class, which is why I think this quote caught my attention.

I'm sure all of you have had one of those weeks where there were so many things to be done that it seemed an impossible task to complete them all. This past week was one for me. I had so many things on my plate at the beginning of the week that I was sure something would slip through the cracks. Then I came upon this quote and it really helped me sort things out. In a world full of to do lists, deadlines, and an endless stream of needs to be met and goals to be reached, it is easy to get overwhelmed; that's where I was before I set about breaking down these words.

Undoubtedly, ambition is a great thing to have. It is what drives us to make what we want happen, to work tirelessly towards our objectives, to persevere until we achieve success. What I like about this quote and Taoism in general is that it reminds us that balance is good also.

"Ambition has one heel nailed in well...." Ambition is grounded. Of course it would be wonderful if I could accomplish every little thing I want to do and every little task that comes my way, but that isn't realistic. With that in mind, I took out my calendar and took a good look at what I had lined up for the week. Although I hate to admit that I can't handle something, let alone remove anything from my to-do list, I had to let a few things go. Only once I prioritized, dug my heels in, and truly committed to the tasks I could do was I able to "stretch my fingers to touch the heavens". And I did. I went above and beyond this week on the tasks I took on, and I was able to complete everything on time and with less stress. Now I sit, sharing this with you, feeling accomplished and ready for the week ahead.

I sometimes feel that with how busy we all are now, we sometimes don't realize we're in too deep until the water is already over our heads. If you find yourself struggling with all that falls on your shoulders, take a step back, take a deep breath, and take stock. Prioritize, organize, and then recognize what you can get done, and focus your energy on that. Lao Tzu also said, "Anticipate the difficult by managing the easy". Do what you know you can first, and, before you know it, you'll be taking on more difficult challenges with ease.

This is just one small piece of the much, much larger concept of Taoism, but I think it's definitely worth adding to my own personal philosophy. Another piece worth mentioning is humility. We at Wilder Public Relations, as always, wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to all of the friends, clients, and colleagues that help make us the success that we are: we know we would not be where we are today if it weren't for your continued support. I hope you all have a wonderful, stress-free, and productive week. Keep those feet on the ground and stretch those fingers for the sky and Heaven beyond.

Wishing you only the best,
Ansleigh Beverly
