Ansleigh's Corner

Recently, I was thinking about how impersonal life has become. Rather than sitting down to a meeting or a lunch with our associates, we send an email or have a conference call. We’ve created “social networking sites” where we get to know one another by reading profiles rather than talking. Even cell phones, which initially made everyone so much more accessible, have replaced face to face chit chats with scratchy, hurried phone calls. And worse, even that small contact is further removed by texting, which eliminates the tone, personality, and emotion that a voice conveys. With the advent of all this technology that is supposed to be bringing the world closer together, I can’t help but wonder if the definition of that ‘togetherness’ is somehow changing.

For a college class I once had to collaborate with a group of ten people to create a presentation. With such a large group, scheduling conflicts made it impossible for all of us to be at a meeting at the same time, so our entire project was orchestrated via email. We did not meet in person a single time. I knew the names of each member of our group, but I only knew a handful of the faces that went with those names. Sure we managed to get the assignment completed, which never would have happened were it not for email, but I wonder what we missed out on by never meeting one another.

Occasionally, I really get fed up with being so “plugged in”. Sometimes I think that Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and all the rest aren’t really adequate for communicating and getting to know one another. But then often I am reminded that I can be completely wrong.

Recently, we have lost many American Icons, perhaps the most well known of these was Michael Jackson. Certainly Jackson had a colorful character and often caused a sensation among the media, but whatever your opinion of him, there is absolutely no denying that he left an irrevocable mark on pop culture. Michael Jackson overcame many obstacles, crossed many barriers, and smashed many records during his astounding career. He was greatly loved by many, many people, and it is a testament to his extreme talent and popularity that the music he created is timeless: it was loved then, it is loved now, and it will be loved always, just as he will.

In no way was this fact proven more in these past few days than in the realm of the internet. The sad tidings appeared on news websites and from there were picked up and spread around the world. Instantaneously, people began posting their grief on the web. In overwhelming numbers, Facebook statuses were updated, Tweets were issued, and blogs were written by disheartened and devastated fans. The reaction was felt all across the internet. It seems fitting that a man who was such a phenomenon during his lifetime, who set so many standards and defied so many social tenets, should with his passing cause such a public outcry as to rock the internet to its very core; something previously unheard of and therefore right up Jackson’s alley.
Though I am saddened by Jackson’s death, seeing his fans come together using the tools of the internet I had previously resented shows me that they really aren’t all bad, and reminds me of the power of something that I really do love-music. Jackson’s music touched millions of people around the world. It brought together people from all walks of life, all cultures, all creeds, and all races. For some it was his lyrics, for some it was the driving beat, for some the fantastic show and spectacular presentation, but for all it was the man himself. They loved his flashy personality, his dancing, his charisma, and how he brought them all happiness with his songs.

The loss of icons like Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Ed McMahon reminds us how ephemeral life can be. Those we love can be gone in an instant. That is why it is so important to let our loved ones know how much we care while we have the chance. Here at Wilder, we always, but especially now, wish to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the friends, colleagues and clients who have helped make us what we are today. Thank you so much for your continued support and loyalty. Please know that it is never for an instant forgotten or taken for granted.

I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead of you. Take a moment to let your friends and family know how much you love and appreciate them, which, although I hate to admit, is made incredibly easy by Facebook and the like. I also encourage you to pull out your old copy of Thriller and put it on. No matter how sad you may be, the music is just too good to allow your spirits to stay down for long!

Wishing you only the best,

Ansleigh's Corner

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the Summer Solstice. This is the longest day of the year and also the shortest night, more importantly, it is the official beginning of summer!

We don't really pay much attention anymore to when summer begins or when the longest day of the year is, but sometimes it's nice to take note of little known facts just for our personal edification. If you're anywhere in the southern United States, then you've undoubtedly already felt the scorching summer heat that has settled upon us, and whether or not you've noticed it, the days have slowly but surely begun to lengthen; the extra hours providing us with that much more time to cram our busy lives into from the comfort of our air conditioned homes and offices
.
We've had a wonderful week at Wilder. We just finished working on TOMOZOO Lomu's Dreams-Mall Quiz Rally. This modified hunt is both entertaining and educational. Rather than simply TPing from shop to shop collecting prizes, you'll have to use your brain power a little bit. Participants must answer random trivia questions in order to gain stamps to trade for rewards. It's a fun way to get some awesome freebies (a few even created by some of our clients) and learn a few more of those fun facts I mentioned earlier. Though Wilder's work for this event is done, the Quiz Rally itself continues through June 28th. If you have already been, go play again! There is no limit to the number of times you can play. If you haven't tried it yet, you may read more about it on this blog or the press release section of our website, and you should definitely TP over and check it out!

Speaking of fun facts, not only is today the Summer Solstice, it's also the anniversary of the first program run on the first stored-program computer, the Manchester Baby (yes I'm a Wikipedia enthusiast). The program was run on this date in 1948 and took nearly an hour to complete. The computer itself took up an entire room, yet the name "Baby" is a reference to its size. In the sixty short years since then, computer technology and programming abilities have evolved to make it possible for us all to own a personal computer, many of which take up nearly no space, and run complicated programs at conveniently fast speeds. Second Life happens to be one such program. And now our SL turns six, and in just those few years, look how far we come. It's nice to take a moment to see the ancestor of the program we all enjoy so much so that we may appreciate it all the more.

Though we love SL for the platform it provides us to conduct our business is, we are even more appreciative of our friends, colleagues, and clients for the wonderful help and support they have given to help make Wilder Public relations the success that it is. We could not be where we are were it not for you, and we are forever grateful.

I hope that you all have summers filled with fun and relaxation, and I hope that you get a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather outside, even if is it unbelievably hot. Soon it will be fall and winter again and we will all be stuck inside waiting for spring, so enjoy this season while you can!

Wishing you only the best,

Ansleigh's Corner

One of the many things we all love about Second Life is the opportunity it provides us to discover many different sides of ourselves. In Second Life, the outlets for creativity are endless. You could be a RL insurance salesman who starts a million-Linden fashion label, a grocery store clerk who builds a grid-wide media outlet, an average office worker who creates an in-world architecture firm, or a student who discovers an unknown ability for webdesign.

Annette Wilder is an example of such a person. She has taken advantage of Second Life to build Wilder Public Relations from the ground up, and now it is the thriving company you see today. We at Wilder are proud to be doing our part to help others in Second Life make their dreams happen by promoting their businesses and events. We are blessed to have such wonderful clientele and will continue to do all we can to bring them the utmost in satisfaction and results.

These opportunities in Second Life give us a chance that we may not normally have in Real Life to nurture our talents. Someone with an eye for design and aesthetics builds fantastic buildings and sims, another person with a flair for fashion and a handle on the properties of fabric and garments creates beautifully breathtaking gowns. In the case of Wilder, Annette has taken a knack for business, a knowledge of advertising, and a gift with words to write creative and effective releases and proposals for our clients. It is this gift with words and the write ups which she creates using it that bring our clients successful results again and again.

Being an avid writer myself, I am pleased to have the chance to exercise my skills in this blog every week. The power of words never ceases to amaze me. Words can be pointed or pointless; the right ones can score you points while the wrong ones can point you straight to the dog house. I could illustrate this point in a blog all its own, but I digress, and I’m sure by now you get the point.

The most important thing when choosing your second career is to figure out what your talents or skills are and pursue them avidly. Not everyone in Second Life is meant to be a model or a content creator. It is wise to remember that the possibilities are vast, and choosing the right one for you is crucial. So many of us are forced by necessity in our Real Lives to do things we don’t necessarily like doing. In Second Life, the beauty is that there is no need to pretend. Should you make the unfortunate decision to be something you are not, know that inevitably the truth will come out and you’ll find yourself stuck in an impossible situation where you are miserable and the people whom you know are disappointed.

At Wilder, we fully believe in the work that we do and could not be happier doing it. Our team is professional, dedicated, and indomitable: we know there are wonderful things in store for us and no one and nothing will stand in our way. We keep these values in mind when we evaluate and choose our customers. We take on only the best; those who share our vision of the wonderful possibilities offered by Second Life and who are truly passionate about their work. It is these clients who have made us the success that we are, and for that we are eternally grateful.

I hope all of you out there have success in your Second Lives and well as your Real Lives. Always remember that your happiness begins and ends with you. People will always surprise you; some will even want to see you fail, but it is entirely up to you to make what you want out of life. If you have the will and determination to reach your goals then it is in your power to make it happen, and I know you will.

Wishing you only the best,

© A WILDER PR INC. PRESS RELEASE JUNE 2009

Sunday, June 7, 2009

Ansleigh's Corner

Undoubtedly one of the most renowned and well-known American architects, Frank Lloyd Wright once said: “I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen.”

Here at Wilder Public Relations, we could not agree more. We are constantly striving to raise the bar in terms of customer service, professionalism, and positive results on all the jobs we do. We are continually innovating new methods to improve the efficiency and outcome of our efforts, thus providing our clients the utmost satisfaction. The myriad of testimonials we have garnered over the course of time show again and again our enduring commitment both to what we do and to our loyal customers who make it all possible.

Frank Lloyd Wright was a champion of what is known as organic architecture: a design philosophy stressing harmony between nature and human habitation. If you are familiar with one of Wright’s most famous designs, Fallingwater, then you have seen this philosophy at work. Falling water is built on the side of a mountain, over a river, yet when you look at it; it barely seems to interrupt the landscape at all. Wright and others who followed this philosophy wanted to see architecture work with the site it was built on, to see it become a part of the site, part of nature itself.

At Wilder, we follow our own version of this philosophy. We want merely to enhance what our clients already have to offer. They come first, and they are the ones that shine. We will get the word out, draw the attention, make a buzz, but in the end it is our very talented clients and what they have done that is what you will remember. Our goal is to be a part of our clients’ overall marketing strategy, not an outside party. We strive to know the ins and outs of every business we work with so that we can help our clients meet their own personal goals. This dedication has served us well so far, and that is why we will continue to keep it up.

Wilder’s definition of success is to be the best, and it is to that goal that we hold an unremitting devotion. It is with that goal in mind that we select and undertake each new job. It is with that goal in mind that we labor endlessly to better the work that we do. And it is with that goal in mind that we are ever striving to improve and perfect our company as a whole.

We realize we would never have come so far and we would have no future if it were not for our wonderful friends, clients, and colleagues. As we reaffirm our mission and prepare for what wonderful things our future holds for us, we would like to take the time to thank each and every one of you most fervently for contributing to making Wilder PR the success that it is today. We look forward to having you with us as our company grows.

It is amazing what an inspiration a work of art and the philosophy behind it can be. I encourage all of you to look up Frank Lloyd Wright’s work if you are not familiar with it. If architecture isn’t your thing, you might try finding out more about your favorite art piece, or maybe even your favorite song or movie. If you’re interested in something more virtual, our talented client Mami Jewell has just launched a new line of bridal wear, just in time for all of those June weddings. Each of her pieces is a work of art in itself, and definitely worth a look at. As you well know, there is an abundance of talent and ingenuity in Second Life, and the things accomplished here are indeed inspirational. Take some time to check out what’s going on, who knows; maybe it will give you a new perspective or an idea of your own to work with. There’s no limit to what we can imagine and create, maybe a fresh new look will give you the push to get started, or- if you already have- maybe a spark to get you going in a new direction. No matter what, I hope you have the best of luck!

Wishing you only the best,
